HIST 02SU25 – “Lesser” Stories of American History: Texas and Giant

“Texas” conjures larger-than-life places, people, and stories, and the iconic movie Giant dramatizes all these images.  Depicting Texas history at the time when ranching and oil vied for the future, George Steven’s mammoth production includes Texas-sized wealth as well as those whose labor supported it.  Viewed over four sessions, Giant features big money, big business, and big risks and also sets the stage for some of the lesser stories of American history.
