Course Description

Gustave Caillebotte:  Impressionist Painter and Collector

Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894) is an often-overlooked member of the group of artists known as the Impressionists, yet he was a friend, supporter, and discerning collector of their works, organizer and participant in their independent exhibitions, and an important painter of modern life and leisure in his own right.  The donation of his collection to the French state now forms the core of the impressionist works at the Musee d’Orsay, Paris.
