Myth and Marble: Ancient Roman Sculpture from the Torlonia Collection (ONLINE)

In this three-session online class, we will discuss a new exhibit at the Kimbell Museum of Art, Ancient Roman Sculpture from the Torlonia Collection. Many of these important relics have never left the Italian Capital but have now come to the United States.  We will begin by discussing the history of the Villa Torlonia and the Jewish catacombs beneath the residence.  Then, we will discuss the collection itself: portraits, funerary, arts, and gods and goddesses.

We will have a sign-up sheet the last day of class for 20 students to attend a docent led tour of the exhibit on November 5. Students must provide their own transportation and pay at the door. More details on this in our class!

The exhibit is open to the public September 14, 2025 – January 25, 2026, Contact the Kimbell Museum of Art for additional information. https://kimbellart.org/art-architecture/exhibitions
