Course Description

The Art and Life of Georgia O’Keeffe

Georgia O’Keeffe is a pivotal figure in 20th century American art.  Her enlarged images of flowers, animal bones and the New Mexican desert where she lived are icons of modernist painting.  This course will explore her early charcoal drawings made while living and teaching art in Texas.   Through to her late large-scale abstractions of clouds and the door of her Abiquiu house, we will explore her technique and discuss her marriage to photographer and gallerist Alfred Stiegiltz.
