Course Description

The Terrible, The Great, and the Last Czar

This three-week class will provide an overview of three Russian Rulers:

Ivan the Terrible – Reign: 1484 - 1547 First Russian ruler to officially adopt the title of Tsar.

Catherine the Great – Reign: 1762 – 1796 Longest ruling female leader and one of its most effective rulers.

Nicholas II – Reign: 1894-1917 – The last Emperor of Russia, ending over 300 years of Romanov rule.

We will look at how reality fits in with their reputations. See you in November!

Sonia Meltzer is a graduate of U.T. Dallas with a master’s in interdisciplinary studies with coursework in holocaust studies, literature, history, history of criticism and aesthetics. She has been teaching SAIL students for many years covering a wide assortment of amazing and historical topics.
