MST 06F25 OL - Introduction to Roman Battlefield Surgery and Medicine
Course Description
Introduction to Roman Battle Field Surgery and Medicine (ONLINE)
When most of us think of the current day surgery, we view it as significantly more advanced than ever before. But did you know that the Roman Army had battlefield medical care that is very similar to what we have today from aid stations to field hospitals to major hospitals. The tools of the “Chirurgic / Medicus” (surgeons / doctors) would easily be recognized by present day surgeons, and many of the surgical instruments could be used today. And it wasn’t just battlefield surgery that the Ancient Roman doctors excelled at… they had specialists in many of the same fields that we have today, such as ophthalmology, orthopedics and pharmacology. Join us to see how they took care of their soldiers after the battle.
