The World That Cotton Made: Unraveling the Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution fundamentally reshaped economies, societies, and technologies across the globe.  In this presentation, we will look at the pivotal role of cotton in shaping the Industrial Revolution.  We will explore why Britain was the cradle of the Industrial Revolution, following its global evolution across the continent, and its impact on an expanding United States.  Cotton was at the epicenter of the Industrial Revolution, from its origin in England to the Market Economy of Antebellum America and in the cotton mill-building crusade of the New South during the Gilded Age.
