MST 08S26 - Where Did Everything Come From?
Course Description
Where Did Everything Come From?
Starting with the energy of the "Big Bang" at the beginning of time. Why is this name misleading? What does science and technology tell us about how everything in the universe was formed? What do we know happened after the "Big Bang", some 13+ billion years ago – from formation of atoms to elements, to stars, galaxies and planets - how does it all fit together? What science learned in our lifetime and what does our very latest technology tell us?
Where do all our elements come from? How did the delicate balance of so many things (which needed to be formed to develop life anywhere) come about? Some examples: what is going on thousands of miles under our feet that makes all life on earth possible, and what is happening miles over our heads that makes human life possible?
When and how will the earth come to a geological end (in about 4 billion years? What have we found out recently about the universe? What are some fundamental things about the cosmos that we still do not know? Finally, how will the earth come to an end.
