Rebels, Rogues, and Rascals :  The Life and Work of Caravaggio (ONLINE)

Join Dr. Robertson for a deep dive into the life and work of Italian Baroque artist Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. We will explore how this remarkable artist changed the history of art with his revolutionary style and subject matter. We will examine his major commissions and his independent works. We will also investigate his rise as the most famous painter in Rome to his downfall and exile over a murder charge. This course will be a combination of art history and true crime!

Dr. Clair Robertson earned her B.A. from The University of Texas Arlington, her M.A. from Texas Christian University, and a Ph.D. from University of Kansas in art history.  She specializes in the 19th-century American art, Italian Renaissance art, and 19th-century French painting.  Dr. Robertson wrote her dissertation on portraitist Thomas Hicks and celebrity culture in mid-19th century New York. When not wandering about museums or studying art, Dr. Robertson enjoys hanging out with her two cow dogs, Hank and Charlie, who are named after country music legends Hank Williams and Charlie Daniels.
