This course examines why Americans often disagree about the best approach to education. It explores the competing philosophies, political influences, and historical forces that have shaped public education since the nation’s founding. Topics include the tension between individualism and democratic ideals, the evolution of educational goals, and the implications of today’s fractured educational environment for the future of the country.
