Course Description

The Baroque era, in the 17th century, followed the High Renaissance in Europe.  Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer and Peter Paul Rubens are the most iconic artists of this era.  During the Baroque movement, artists were freed from portraying religious art exclusively.  Secular scenes, portraits and mythological subjects were also popular.  The Baroque style can be described as gorgeous, dramatic and emotional.

In this class, we will look at examples from the best of the Baroque artists and discover their impact on art history.
