Course Description

From Brazil to Italy, Anita Garibaldi fought for independence by the side of her husband, Giuseppe Garibaldi.  Through multiple pregnancies, she fought on land, at sea, and even briefly endured captivity before she escaped.  Both victories and defeats were known to her, but she and her husband prevailed and shortly after her death Italian independence was achieved.  She is acknowledged as the mother of the Italian Revolution.

Karen Marcotte is a retired Professor Emerita in History and Humanities and taught for 40 years in the Alamo Community College District (ACCD) in San Antonio.  Her last 30 years were at Palo Alto College in ACCD where she was a founding member.  During those years she chaired the Social Sciences Department, developed and taught curriculum for the majority of the History and Humanities classes. She and her husband are avid travelers and have recently relocated to McKinney to be closer to family.
