Course Description

We will discuss ten readings from 100 Years of the Best American Short Stories, a volume of forty stories selected from more than 2000 that have been published in The Best American Short Stories’ series.  This is the longest-running and best-selling series of short fiction in the country.  Our selection includes works by Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Porter, Faulkner, Welty, and Cheever, among others.  100 Years of the Best American Short Stories (2015) is edited by Lorrie Moore and Heidi Pitlor and is available online.

Five meetings: 10/24, 31, 11/14, 21, 12/5

Paul Dolliver earned degrees in History and Geology from Baylor University.  He has also pursued graduate studies in the History of Science at Harvard University.  He is a geologist, college instructor, reader, walker, and Texas Master Naturalist.  Paul has been involved with SAIL for several years and has facilitated discussion groups for over 30 years.  He currently teaches Oceanography at Collin College.
