GS 01SU25 OL - Varieties of Spiritual Experience (Online)

Mr. Doliver will summarize a book by scientists David Yaden and Andere Newberg, publishes in 2022 by Oxford Press:  The Varieties of Spiritual Experience, 21s Century Research and Perspectives.  The title is resonant of the 1902 work by psychologist and philosopher William James:  The Varieties of Religious Experience: A Study in Human Nature. James famously analyzed accounts of spiritual experiences from around the world and across history.  He also posted these questions for future scientific study:  What triggers these experiences?  How are the brain and body affected?  How do such brief moments have such lasting effects?  Science now offers some answers, thanks to advances in psychology and neuroscience.
