LMW 01SU25 – Great Russian Short Stories Discussion Group

We will discuss two short story readings from A Swim in a Pond in the Rain: In Which Four Russians Give a Master Class on Writing, Reading, and Life by George Saunders.  Saunders is a novelist and short story writer who has been teaching a Russian short story class at Syracuse University for over 20 years.  A Swim in a Pond in the Rain  pairs seven iconic short stories with essays that explore how great writing works, how the reading mind works, and how “the reading and writing of stories make genuine connection possible”.

We will read and discuss “Gooseberries” by Anton Chekhov and “Alyosha the Pot” by Leo Tolstoy.   A Swim in a Pond in the Rain was published in 2021

Paul Dolliver earned degrees in History and Geology from Baylor University.  He also pursued graduate studies in the History of Science and Harvard University.  He is a geologist, reader, walker and Texas Master Naturalist.  Paul has been involved with SAIL for several years and has facilitated discussion groups for over 35 years.  He teaches Oceanography at Collin College.
